Introducing the Cliff Ellis Nature Trail

Since opening, more than 700 families have found comfort at the Alexandra Ellis Caring Cabin, but much of its 24 wooded acres remained difficult to access. That changed thanks to the vision of our co-founder and site manager, Cliff Ellis, who dreamed of a peaceful, accessible trail circling the lake.

With the support of Board Member Ryan Beckley, Bros & Hoes Landscaping, Coastway Construction, and many generous partners, that dream became a reality in July 2025.

“There is no one more devoted to the Caring Cabin than Cliff,” said Kacy Smerke, Director of Programs, PNW. “Although the Caring Cabin is aptly named the Alexandra Ellis Caring Cabin, we think Cliff’s name needs to be there permanently as well.”

The trail was always a dream Cliff had and the team at Children’s Cancer Association felt it was only appropriate that his name be honored alongside his daughter’s.

Thus, the Caring Cabin team surprised Cliff with a new sign naming the trail “The Cliff Ellis Nature Trail.”

Complete with a ribbon ceremony to commemorate the incredible addition to the property, it was an emotional moment of honoring the dedicated father who envisioned a peaceful trail for all families to enjoy for years to come.

This new trail will provide countless moments of peace and connection for the next 700+ families to come. Thank you, Cliff — and thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life!
